Broad Beans
History places the origin of the bean plant in Asia Minor and North Africa, from where it reached Europe in the 13th century.
The ancient Egyptians thought that beans were impure and that the souls of deceased people were hidden within them. Fortunately, the belief did not prosper in Europe, from where the Spanish brought them to America. There they found suitable land for its cultivation in the cold and temperate zones of the Andes. Since then it has become a highly appreciated ingredient in Latin American gastronomy.
