Blueberries

Between 2016 and 2017, the blueberry harvest doubled (from 20,000 to 40,000 tonnes) and the trend continues to increase. Currently, we are the second largest exporter worldwide. During the last five years, Peru displaced other blueberry exporting countries thanks to a 1355% growth in market share in the United States. In the same period, our country displaced other blueberry exporting nations as its participation in the American market grew by 2,157%.

The blueberry has abundant natural pigments (anthocyanins and carotenoids) with antioxidant action. It contains bioflavonoids and vitamin A, which can help improve night vision by preventing certain visual disturbances. Also, a study conducted using lyophilized cranberry powder in postmenopausal women indicated that it could lower blood pressure due, in part, to nitric oxide production.
